S4S Talks | Climate Pressure: An Evening About Climate, Behavior, and the Impossible

On March 30, we are organizing an inspiring evening together with Students4Sustainability at Theater de Veste about climate and human behavior. The theme is “Climate Pressure,” because: how do you keep a cool head while the world is heating up?

Our speakers are astronaut André Kuipers, Nisha Bakker from The Ocean Cleanup, and Delft’s alderman Maaike Zwart. From 20:00 to 22:00, they will explore the theme from multiple perspectives and answer all your questions.

The doors open at 19:00. From that moment until the symposium begins, you can walk around, meet sustainable companies, and engage in conversation with them at their stands.

Expect an evening full of inspiring stories, new perspectives, and a room filled with students and curious minds.

This event is organized by Students4Sustainability in collaboration with Studium Generale.

Dr. André Kuipers Astronaut & Ambassador of Earth. André Kuipers is the first Dutchman with two space missions to his name. His second mission is the longest spaceflight in European history. In total the ESA astronaut spent 204 days in space: 11 days during mission DELTA in 2004 and 193 days during mission PromISSe. After years of training in Houston, Moscow, Cologne, Montreal and Tokyo, a Russian Soyuz spaceship launched André and his two crew members from Russia and America on the 21st of December 2011 from Kazakhstan. Two days later he arrived at the International Space Station to live and work for six months. On board he was not only a medical doctor, scientist and flight engineer, but also handyman and ambassador for several charities. On the 1st of July 2012, André returned to Earth and landed in his space capsule in the Kazakh steppe. Astronaut André Kuipers offers a unique look behind the scenes of international human spaceflight. NISHA BAKKER Director Partnerships – The Ocean Cleanup Nisha bouwt al ruim 20 jaar wereldwijd bruggen tussen het bedrijfsleven, overheden en non-profit organisaties vanuit de overtuiging dat wereldwijde complexe uitdagingen zoals armoede en klimaatverandering alleen opgelost kunnen worden door samenwerking en het creëren van gemeenschappelijke waarde. Nisha is haar carrière gestart bij Unilever en heeft daarna wereldwijd gewerkt voor organisaties als UNICEF en het Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken. Binnen The Ocean Cleanup is ze verantwoordelijk voor het ecosysteem van partnerschappen om onze oceanen plastic vrij te maken. Het doel is om dit voor 2040 voor elkaar te krijgen en de organisatie dan op te heffen.
