Studium Generale meets Lumen | Bugonia

Filmhuis Lumen and Studium Generale are joining forces and organize a new monthly collaboration showcasing the best and freshest voices from cinema. Wednesday 29 October there is a special preview of Yorgos Lanthimos’ Bugonia. The film will be introduced by journalist and lecturer Gerlinda Heywegen. For students (with a student card): tickets are only €7,50 and include a free drink!

What if the powerful among us turn out not to be human? In Bugonia, the new film by Yorgos Lanthimos, paranoia and absurdity strike in both hilarious and unsettling ways. Two young men, obsessed with conspiracy theories, kidnap the influential CEO of a pharmaceutical company – convinced that she is an alien intent on destroying the Earth.

After The Favourite, Poor Things, and Kinds of Kindness, Emma Stone and Lanthimos join forces once again, this time for a surreal remake of the South Korean cult film Save the Green Planet. Bugonia is both a darkly comic thriller and a sharp reflection of our conspiracy-fueled, social media-driven reality.

With a brilliant Stone at the top of her game and Lanthimos’ signature blend of absurdism, discomfort, and visual grandeur, Bugonia offers a hypnotic viewing experience – at once witty and terrifying.
