Filmhuis Lumen and Studium Generale are joining forces and are starting a new monthly collaboration showcasing the best and freshest voices from cinema.
Trans Memoria can be described as an introspective film: calm, sensitive, and intensely moving in its subtlety. Directed by and starring Victoria Verseau, the film explores her personal transition and delves into the broader concept of what defines a woman. Alongside this, the film recounts the story of Meril, a close friend who has passed away. Verseau shares her pain with friends Athena and Aamina, who are undergoing transitions of their own. The film questions who they once were, who they have become, and what the future holds for them.
This documentary stands out as a unique, visually striking, and deeply personal exploration of identity and transformation.
Before the screening, there will be a discussion with writer, activist, and feminist Alejandra Ortiz, who will speak about her book De waarheid zal me bevrijden (The Truth Will Set Me Free), detailing her own transition and her journey from Mexico to the Netherlands. The discussion will be moderated by film journalist Gerlinda Heywegen.
