VOX Discussion: What is “You”?

Are “you” your body? Or are “you” something above and beyond your body? Well, scientifically, it makes sense to say that “you” indeed are your body. Your body contains your brain and your brain is where your consciousness somehow happens.

But what if we made a perfect copy of your body? Would that new body also be your body? Or would it be a body belonging to someone else , someone that merely believes that they are you? And if they are indeed someone else, then what is the crucial difference that explains that they are “not you”?

Join us next Tuesday the 12th of November as we philosophize about teleporters, brain-uploads, split-brain patients, and about what makes your body your body. As always, we are meeting at The Nook at 19:00, snacks and drinks are on us 😊
