Recording: BingeWatch Academy: Superhero Science Episode IV – Daredevil
How does Daredevil see the world? Join host Barry Fitzgerald to find out!
Despite being blind, Matt Murdock, better known as Daredevil, “sees” and experiences the world in a very different manner to us. As a child Murdock was involved in a chemical accident that took his eyesight, but gave him unprecedented abilities. His remaining senses are augmented by the accident giving him super-hearing, greater sensitivity to smells and odours, and the ability to perceive people and objects around him using what seems to be a radar sense.
In BingeWatch Academy: Superhero Science Episode IV, you will learn more about the abilities of the superhero known as “The Man without Fear” or “The Devil of Hell’s Kitchen”. First, Roberto Merino Martínez from the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at TU Delft will introduce technologies that can “see” sound. Daredevil can also detect precursors that he uses to predict certain events. So Rolf Hut will consider how we make predictions, the limits of prediction, and how this might affect Daredevil. Incredibly, Daredevil can also use his powers for the surveillance of buildings and structures. The final speaker, Sanne Maring, will consider how drone technologies can provide us with a new perspective of buildings and structures, which is perhaps the same as Daredevil’s perspective.
Few in the world of superheroes rival Daredevil’s powers of perception. But we may very well have the technologies and know-how to see the world just as Daredevil sees it.
“How do you know the angel and the devil inside me aren’t the same thing?” – Matt Murdock (Daredevil)
