Event is sold out!
Every day, your identity is confirmed to you by the outside world. But what happens when we close off to that world? Is there a way of knowing there is more outside of you?
Today’s session will give you an opportunity to visit the anechoic chamber, or “dodekamer” (dead room) as it is lovingly called in Dutch. Sitting in darkness in a sound absorbing room, we will contemplate the self, where it starts or ends, and if it is connected to anything outside of us. How can we be sure there is anything beyond our own thoughts?
After 20 minutes in the dark womb of this ancient lab at the physics department, we’ll discuss the nature of self, subjectivity, and that scariest of taboos in the world of philosophy – solipsism. Fun!
Be warned – space is limited, and the experience might be too much for some people. If you’re claustrophobic, this may not be good for you.

From writing workshops to philosophical examinations, we invite you to connect with others and talk through what loneliness means to you.
