Indigenous Peoples’ Day: A Masterclass in the Colonial History of the Americas

What was life like for the Indigenous inhabitants of the Americas before Columbus? And what is it like today? Using historical texts, photographs, video, music, and recent events in the Americas, Cameahwait paints a broad picture of the colonisation of the Americas and the continued impact on Indigenous and First Nations peoples.

Expect an engrossing and interactive evening that will give you a different historical perspective and context.  We’ll look at, for example, what “discovery” and “colonisation” mean in theory and practice, the role of the Catholic Church in European expansion, and some of the laws and policies that made the conquest and colonisation of the Americas possible.
